Insurance

We are not contracting with any insurance companies. However, many insurance plans (esp. PPO and EPO) provide partial reimbursements for psychiatric services. To assist you with getting the insurance reimbursement, we will provide a “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance. We encourage you to inquire with your insurance carrier about your out-of-network mental health benefits prior to scheduling an appointment.

Why we do not accept insurance

We do not accept insurance, so that we can maintain the ability to provide a high-quality individualized care for our clients. Unfortunately, insurance carries routinely undermine the quality of patient care by limiting the number and frequency of visits, denial of services, and imposing standardized treatment algorithms that do not take into account each individual’s unique characteristics and life circumstances.

Numerous studies have showed that in most cases, optimal treatment results are achieved through a combination of psychotherapy (ala “talk therapy”) and medications. While many environmental factors (i.e. childhood trauma, adverse life circumstances, etc.) can have a significant impact on an individual’s mental health and response to treatments, those contributing factors cannot be effectively addressed with medications alone. Yet, insurance carriers incentivize psychiatrists to focus on pharmacological treatments (medication management) and dispense with psychotherapy. In recent years, this led to a rise of 15-minute med check-ins that are hardly long enough to properly assess client’s response to medications let alone evaluate the contribution of external stressors to their psychological distress.
